Autumn 2

PE - Autumn 2

Please ensure your have a labelled PE kit in school on a Wednesday (Dance coach).

We will also have outdoor learning on a Thursday but this will not require a PE kit.

 

Homework

This half term we will be sending home English comprehension each week and a Maths problem solving activity linked to our learning in class. Children will continue to receive spellings homework and should continue to read at least x4 a week.

In class we are reading a book called Azzi in between. The book is about a young refugee girl called Azzi who has to flee her home country and move to England for safety. We are learning all about the struggles that Azzi faces on her journey to England and settling in at school.

 

This book is the focus of much of our learning throughout Autumn 2

 

In English: we will be exploring different narratives, stories from another culture, creating diary entries and composing poetry.

 

In Science: we will be looking in more detail at the seeds Azzi brings with her. This will lead us to look at identifying and describing the functions  of different parts of flowering plants; investigate the way in which water is transported within plants; explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal; explore the requirements of plants for life and growth and how they vary from plant to plant.

 

In Geography: we will research types of settlement and land use, economic activity including trade links, and the distribution of natural resources including energy, food, minerals and water. We will be using the country setting from the book but also begin to look at the effects this had on modern situations like the Calais Jungle.

 

The above are our key drivers and we will weave other curriculum subjects in and around them. For example, we will be growing our own plants towards the end of the year, preparing and cooking a meal, creating experiments, tying in computing and SEALs and for ART week creating landscape silhouettes. We will even have sessions with Dogs Trust and our Dance PE coach linking in with these topics.
