Snowy the Rabbit
As year 1 learned the story of Peter Rabbit in their English lessons, Miss Hyde brought her rabbit into school on the 27th November 2018. His name is Snowy and the children enjoyed helping to look after him during the day. They asked lots of questions and even enjoyed having their fruit and milk time with him.
I hope you all have had a fantastic half term holiday and are looking forward to a brilliant, new half term. There are lots of things to look forward to this half term such as bonfire night, children in need and of course the Christmas performances. Please keep checking the website and newsletters for specific dates.
In English, we are going to continue with using our phonics to support our spelling. We are going to be learning lots of different texts starting with Mr Gumpy's Outing which will help us with rehearsing out sentences before writing them. Talking with the children about their stories in English will really support their writing.
In maths, we will be continuing with addition and then moving on to subtraction, multiplication and division. We will be using lots of different resources to support this, including songs that your child can sing along to at home.
Our new Learning Challenge questions is 'Does it Rain Everywhere?'. We will be exploring weather patterns and exploring different countries and where they are in the world. We will also be discussing the equator and creating our own rain catcher. We will be linking our science to this topic by looking at seasons too.
The children in Hedgehogs have been learning about Hinduism this week and Diwali. They have read the story of Rama and Sita and have made their own Rangoli patterns.
Welcome back to a fantastic half term. The children in Hedgehogs this half term are answering the question 'Are We Superheroes?' They have been designing their own costume and even have taken part in the making of a superhero film with the brilliant Mr Adam Pepper
The Hedgehogs are learning all about the body this half term, including how to brush your teeth and why it is important. The will be exploring the 5 senses and explaining which part of the body matches to those senses.
The children are learning how to write amazing sentences in English related to our superheroes topic. They are practising using their phonics to help spell as well as using full stops to end their sentences.
This half term, Hedgehogs are learning about place value for 4 weeks and addition and subtraction for 3 weeks. They will be practising their counting forwards and backwards up to 20 and writing their numbers carefully to ensure they are the correct way around.
The children loved dressing up as their favourite superheroes and making their own film.
Labelling body parts for science
The children in Hedgehogs had fun drawing around each other and labelling the body parts in their science lesson. They begun to discuss the 5 senses.
