Welcome to the Wolves den
Wolves work incredibly hard during all lessons and love learning so keep checking on this page and Westglade's twitter feed for regular updates on what we are up to. Year 3 is an exciting year where children move into Key Stage 2 and continue to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding. We are a strong team that like to support each other in all we do.
We will do our very best to keep you up to date with everything but if there is ever anything you would like to know feel free to speak to either Mr Brown or Mr Chambers and we'll happily help in any way we can.
What's happening and when?
PE - Every Tuesday. Children will need their indoor PE kit and must remove all jewellery. Please remember to name all items of clothing as they can sometimes stray from their owners!
Swimming - Wolves will be swimming during Spring 2. We will swim every Tuesday morning. Children will need a full kit, including a towel and swimwear. Please note that girls should wear swimming costumes (1 piece) and boys should wear trunks (no pockets and above the knee). Jewellery must be removed. These are the city swimming team rules and children will not be allowed to swim if they are in inappropriate kit.
Homework - Homework will be handed out every Friday, and is expected to be returned by the following Wednesday. Some terms will be a creative task linked to our Learning Challenge and others will be stand alone English or maths related homework. Any piece of homework set is designed to further extend the classroom learning and therefore will help the children make good progress.
Reading - It is expected that your child reads as much as possible during the school week, even if they are a free reader. Regular reading helps children to develop their vocabulary, understanding of grammar and sentence construction as well as develop a love of books. Reading diaries will be checked every Friday so please have them in school. Those children who read 4x or more during the week will receive 5 chance cards!
Every half term we learn all about a topic and try to answer a 'Big Question', we call this Learning Challenge. As part of our Learning Challenge we will develop knowledge, skills and understanding across the national curriculum. This year our Learning Challenge questions are:
Autumn 1 - Who is Azzi?
Autumn 2 - How did the Anglo Saxons live?
Spring 1 - Dare you explore the Amazon rainforest?
Spring 2 - Can a Wolf survive eating only chocolate?
Summer 1 - Guilty or not guilty?
Summer 2 - Would I make a good Egyptian?
You can find out more about our Learning Challenges in our class blogs.
