Welcome to the Year 6 Bats Autumn Blog page!
Below are a few important pieces of information to be aware of for this half term.
PE is Tuesday (Dance with Mrs Bathgate) and Friday (outdoor games with Miss Gell). Please ensure your child has full PE kit all week, including trainers, black shorts/jogging bottoms and a white T-Shirt.
We begin our DARE sessions on Thursday 12th September. There will be a parent meeting for this on Monday 9th to provide you will all the information you need and answer any questions you may have.
Learning Challenge and Science
Our Learning Challenge question is : What makes a better tool, stone or iron?
We will be covering the period in history from the Stone Age right through to the Iron Age and making observations about life for people in Britain during this time. We will also be comparing the landscapes of Britain, creating cave paintings and designing and making our own Stone Henge models.
Our Science topic for this half term is: Evolution and Inheritance which links nicely to our Learning Challenge topic.
Some of the text types will include: setting descriptions, newspaper report and a non chronological report.
We will be reading the novel Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver which links to our Learning Challenge topic too.
Our maths blocks this half term are Place Value followed by Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division
All children will receive a piece of English and Maths homework as well as 20 spellings on Fridays and this is expected to be returned by the following Wednesday. We work really hard in Year 6 to prepare children as best as we possibly can for their transition up to secondary school and homework is an incredibly important part of this. We would really appreciate your support in ensuring your child completes and returns homework on time.
As always, if they or you would like any support with anything we give out, then please do not hesitate to come in and see me or call be via the office.
