Hi caterpillars! Well done on completing your first few week at school! You've all been so amazing and settled in beautifully. Super proud of you all!

Below are just a few important details:

School hours continue to be 8:55 drop off at the nursery gate and 3:10 pick up at the nursery gate also.

The children have PE on a Friday however they are not currently getting changed for this therefore no need to worry about a PE kit just yet. We will let you know if this changes.

The children have recently been given their book bag, reading books and reading diaries. Books are changed once a week every Friday. Most children will have been given a starter book with just pictures in. This is to help the children become familiar with creating their own narratives/inferences from what they can see. When you sit down with your child with these books, simply ask the children what they think is happening from the pictures and help them create their narratives. This develops language skills and helps children appreciate that books tell interesting stories. As the children progress they will be given reading books tailored to their level. The expectation for 1:1 reading at home is 4 times a week minimum. This will ensure maximum progress for your child. Please evidence in your child's reading diary the date you've read at home with a comment on how they did so that we know they've read. We will read with them at least once a week in school alongside our daily Read Write Inc Phonics scheme. We will soon be introducing incentives to the children to encourage regular reading at home and promote that love of reading.

Unfortunately due to government guidance and local authority guidelines we are still unable to allow parents/carers inside the building at this time. Thank you all so much for your patience at the gate. You've all been great at this tricky time!

School meal menu - Please check the top left corner of the menu for which weeks menu is being served

The children will be given fruit and milk daily at school.

We will go outside everyday so please make sure your child is dressed for the correct weather. Please ensure they have a water bottle and that any clothing items are clearly named! We have several cardigans and jumpers in the classroom with no names and nobody has claimed them yet so if you're missing any let us know.

At Westglade our curriculum is driven by our 'Learning Challenge' question. Each half term we have a new question that we explore.
