WALT: explore the technique of blending.
Today we will be making some artwork inspired by Frank Bowling. He is a British artist who makes abstract art. He uses lots of different techniques like dripping, spilling and pouring to make some incredible pieces! This lesson involves the use of paints but I will be showing you how to do certain techniques with colouring pencils.

It's a very exciting day for the children in Tulip Class. "We are going on a very special trip to the fire station!" Read along as the children meet Charlie who shows them just what it takes to be a firefighter. This story challenges gender stereotypes and supports children's future aspirations
After reading the story, discuss different jobs and job roles. What could you be when you grow up? Talk about options such as scientists, or builders, doctors and nurses, teachers, musicians, anything at all! What types of skills or qualities would you need to be able to do that job? Discuss and challenge typical gender stereotypes e.g. only girls can be nurses or only boys can be builders. Explain to the children they can be anything they want to be as long as they put their mind to it!

WALT: go on a texture treasure hunt.
In this lesson, we will be learning about an artist called Max Ernst. He created a technique in art called frottage. This is when you use your pencil to make rubbings of textured objects which you find around your home. You will need a pencil and paper.
You could finish your artwork by adding an outline using a felt tip pen. You could even add stitches to make it look like a patchwork quilt! Try using different coloured pencil crayons or wax crayons to make your artwork even brighter!

WALT: think about our feelings and create a feelings jar.
Today we are going to reflect on our lockdown experience and how it has felt being away from school for so long. We will think about what we have enjoyed and create a feelings jar, filled with all of the things that have made us happy, which might help others feel better about their experience.
In this lesson, you will need an exercise book or some paper, a pencil and some coloured pencil crayons or felt tips.
Some of us have been at home for many weeks now and during this time, I'm sure you have been through many ups and downs and now is a good time to reflect on those feelings. What does the word 'reflect' mean? Reflect means to think about some of the things you have done and then considering what you could have done better or what didn't go so well or what went really well!
For example, not seeing your family or friends may have really upset you and made you feel down but you might have really enjoyed staying up late at night time and getting up a bit later! For me, I have really missed seeing you all and teaching you everyday but I have enjoyed doing lots of cooking at home and getting better at baking! I have had lots of mixed feelings during lockdown and that's OK! Now we're going to listen to a fantastic story about 'the Colour Monster' and he too, has mixed feelings.
I really enjoyed this story because it explains that we all experience different feelings and it's OK to feel them! It's just about sharing them with somebody and letting them know how you're feeling. I'm sure by talking about it, you will feel much better!
Have a think about how you have been feeling during lockdown. Can you think of something that you have enjoyed doing at home? E.g. an activity you've done, a conversation you've had, somewhere you've been or learnt to do. Write these down on a piece of paper so that you can look back on these the next time you are feeling down! Then add these to your happiness jar! You can fill your jar with things that have made you feel joy or happiness. For example, you might want to draw a picture of all your friends and put that in the jar to remind you of them or you could put in a photograph of your family to look back at. You could also put in your list that you wrote earlier!
WALT: investigate warm and cool colours.
In today’s lesson, we will be focusing on how colours can be categorised into warm and cool. Warm colours help us think of warm and cosy things, while cool colours may remind us of fresh, calm and chilly things. We will create a piece of work inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, who used warm and cool colours in her artwork. You will need a piece of paper, a pencil and some paints or colouring pencils.

In today's Oak National Academy lesson we will be studying a spectacular artist called Wassily Kandinsky. He was a Russian artist known for using lots of colours and shapes in his artwork. We will be recreating our own Kandinsky-inspired artwork. You will need some paints or colouring pencils for today’s lesson.
Can a princess rescue a prince?
This half-term our Learning Challenge topic is based around gender stereotypes. Our focus for this is the book 'The Paper Bag Princess' by Robert Munsch.
When the fiercest dragon in the whole world smashes princess Elizabeth's castle, burns all her clothes, and captures her fiancé, Prince Ronald, Elizabeth takes matters into her own hands. With her wits alone and nothing but a paper bag to wear, the princess challenges the dragon to show his strength in the hopes of saving the prince. But is it worth all that trouble?
The story reverses the princess and the dragon stereotype.
Ask your child to draw a picture of a princess or a prince and to colour it in. Ask them for adjectives to describe their prince's or princess' character. I have placed some character adjectives below for ideas. Discuss why your child has chosen the adjectives they did. You could then repeat the activity for the other character. Compare the adjectives your child has chosen. Can you challenge some of their ideas!?
