Why not have a go at this KS1 Arithmetic test from 2018 and see how many different methods you can use to find the right answer! You could try:

 

  • counting on or back from a number
  • using a part-part-whole diagram
  • column addition or subtraction
  • halving or doubling
  • using a number line (a ruler is a great number line you may have at home!)
  • counting in multiples of a number (2s, 3s, 5s or 10s)
  • drawing equal groups
  • using arrays (e.g. 2 x 3 would be two rows of three dots)
  • grouping for division
