Maths

As I mentioned last week, a lot of the lessons I will be putting on will be things we covered during the autumn term so you can make sure you have remembered and can apply all the skills we learnt back then ready for your move to secondary school.

Don't forget you can use IXL to practise skills too and there is also now a 'message' feature where I can send you a message when you are online answering questions. Look out for the paper aeroplane symbol on your homepage.

Monday

1) 54678 ÷ 100        2) 567 x 3        3) 3/10 + 6/10

4)  435 x 12            5) 6/12  ÷  3        6) 20 - 4 x 3

Challenge

Use this to help you with the challenge: Long Division Song (Ho Hey Parody)

A song about the steps of long division to the tune of "Ho Hey" by the Lumineers.

WALT: add and subtract integers

True or false? Can you prove it using some examples?

Add and subtract integers (whole numbers) worksheets and answers

Remember BIDMAS: Brackets, indices (squared and cubed numbers), division, multiplication, addition, subtraction

True or false?

WALT: multiply up to a 4-digit number by a 2-digit number

Use this to recap your knowledge of long multiplication.

Remember to multiply all digits by the ones column first. Next make sure you put in a place holder (0) underneath the first row to show you are now multiplying by the tens. Don't forget to add both rows together when you have finished.

Here's what it looks like:

Long multiplication

Finding it tricky?

Try working on your short multiplication first and then move on to two-digits.

Multiplication grid

Need a challenge?

Can you create your own problem solving questions that involve this skill? Think about if they can include more than one step and then send them to a friend to complete.

Wednesday

1) 743 - 8              2) 4.2 + 0.02        3) 4 x 5 x 2

Today, I would like you to log in to IXL and practise some addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. This means I can see how you have got on this week and remember I can now send messages to help you when you are in the 'live classroom'.

It would also be useful for you to work on the long division method so use the video above to help you and write yourself some questions to answer.
