Writing

This week will be focused on creative writing! Each day you will have a picture stimulus to work with. Time to use your super imaginations and see where they take you! :D

Monday 13th July

Look at the image below. Today you will be using inference (detection skills) to think about what might be happening in this image. Think of things such as:

  • what's the mission?
  • who is the spaceman?
  • where have they come from?
  • where are they going and why?
  • what has happened?
  • what has been found/lost?
  • character feelings
Write a short story (few paragraphs) summarising what you think the story could be about from looking at the image. Add detailed description (adjectives) for character and setting, mysterious language and dialogue if needed and above all use your imagination! e.g. 'The ancient being managed to reach the unknown, desolate planet when all of a sudden...'

Tuesday 14th July

Look at the image below. What kind of place do you think this is from? Could it be from an information text or a fiction one and why?

Write a detailed description of this setting in a few paragraphs. Include:

  • adjectives to describe
  • where is this?
  • what kind of land is it in?

e.g. 'The mysterious, bright and towering lollipop trees almost reach the crispy and fluffy marshmallow clouds'.

Wednesday 15th July

Have a look at the image below. Do you think the 2 creatures are friends or foes? Why?

Write a piece of dialogue between the 2 characters that either portrays them as friends or foes. Don't forget to use speech marks when using dialogue.

Here is the link to BBC Bitesize's recap on how to use speechmarks correctly if you're uncertain:

Thursday 16th July

A pathway to where? Look at the image below. Use your imagination to think about where the pathway may lead to for this character.

Write a piece detailing where you think the path might lead and why. Could it be a magical land? Could it be a path to a different realm? Use adjectives to describe and create atmosphere.

Friday 17th July

Big Write!

Follow the link to the Oak National Academy's lesson on 'continuing a story'.

Today you will be given part of a story and you'll have to use your imagination to continue it. Ensure it's exciting by using many descriptions and atmosphere.
