Safeguarding

Safeguarding Team

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Safeguarding means:

  • protecting children from abuse and maltreatment.
  • preventing harm to children’s health or development.
  • ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care.
  • taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.

Safeguarding and child protection guidance and laws apply to all children up to the age of 18.

What is Child Protection?

Child Protection is part of Safeguarding and promoting welfare. It refers to the activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering, or are likely to suffer, significant harm.

If you have any safeguarding concerns then please immediately voice them to one of our safeguarding leads.

You can also make a referral yourself to Children and Families Direct on 0115 876 4800.

At Westglade we pride ourselves on the inclusive and responsible attitudes our students take. We immediately address any concerns that are raised to ensure that this is maintained across classes and across school. Through our RSHE lessons we have a comprehensive coverage of a range of issues facing young people today and help them to understand and deal with the emotions some situations bring. Should any issues arise they are dealt with immediately.
